About Our Club
Carlow Lawn Tennis Club is a multi sport club offering facilities and coaching for tennis, badminton, and squash. Whether you are a current member or considering joining our club, we are dedicated to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all players. Our club is committed to promoting the enjoyment and development of these three sports in the local community.
Our Story
Established in 1878 (as recorded in The History of Tennis by Tom Higgins), Carlow Lawn Tennis Club – originally known as Carlow Tennis Club / Co. Carlow LTC / Carlow County Cricket & Tennis Club – is among the oldest tennis clubs in Leinster. When the very first Irish Championships were held at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in 1879, two Carlow players proudly took part.

By 1908, Carlow was one of around fifty tennis clubs nationwide and part of a thriving Leinster tennis community. The club was first located on what is now the Institute of Technology Carlow campus on the Kilkenny Road, before moving in the 1920s to its current home on Oak Park Road, where it shared grounds with Carlow Rugby Football Club. The land was purchased from the de Bruen Estate in the mid-1930s, and by 1960 the rugby club had moved further along Oak Park Road, leaving Carlow LTC as sole occupant of the site.

Today – more than 140 years later – Carlow Lawn Tennis Club continues to thrive as a welcoming, inclusive, and active community for tennis, squash, and badminton players. Set on over two acres of grounds, the club features eight floodlit tennis courts, two badminton courts, and three glass-back squash courts, along with generous green space that provides both a beautiful setting and exciting potential for future development.

With a growing membership of 1200+, including active and life members, Carlow LTC prides itself on being a community as much as a club - and new members are always welcome.
Club Structure
The club is managed by an Executive Committee of up to twelve officers who oversee the running of the club on a weekly and monthly basis.
As Carlow LTC owns its own property – including clubhouse, car park, courts, and surrounding green space – three trustees are appointed by the Executive Committee to hold the club’s assets on its behalf.
With a growing membership of around 600, including active and life members, Carlow LTC prides itself on being a community as much as a club – and new members are always welcome.
