2013 Badminton update
By Miriam Walsh.

  • Club night ran successfully every Monday night from 8pm to 10pm from start September to end April, with huge numbers of juniors turning up every week for junior club night every Friday nights, 7-9 pm, which included coaching from  new coaches Shane Kavanagh and Kevin Tobin, with assistance fro, the experienced PJ Cooney. Junior night on Wednesdays, run by Pj Cooney, with help from Chris Chalton also was well attended, and in fact is still ongoing during the summer due to the level of interest.
  • Grade 1 mixed team (8 person) won the grade 1 south west league, beating portarlington parochial in a tight final in Carlow YM in December 2012. Team consisted of Andrew Harte, Colm Byrne, Shane Kavanagh, John Downling (sub Kevin Tobin), and Eimear Banville, Aoife Kavanagh, Miriam Walsh and Ellen Cassels (Sub Ellen O Neill). This same team went on to represent south west league in inter club leinster competition in Baldoyle in April, losing out marginally to the eventual Leinster champions Ailesbury.

  • Carlow LTC entered a 4 woman team into Dublin Division 2 league and cup, getting to cup semi but losing out to a strong Pembroke team, after a very close match, indeed after 2-2 draw, equal sets and points with all games played, the 1st ladies had to play again and lost in a very tight 3 set match. Team consisted of Claire Falvey, Aoife Kavanagh, Miriam Walsh and Ellen Cassels. The same team lost out by 1 point to a place in the league semi finals after very competitive matches against Ailesbury, Old School and Mount Pleasant teams. In fact Carlow LTC had drawn twice 2-2 with the eventual winners of the league and cup Ailesbury.

  • New female members of the badminton club formed a 4 person grade 7 team, entering both the south west and kilkenny ladies league, and doing very well in their first year, including getting to the semi finals of the south west league. It is hoped that more teams can be entered next year into various grades and leagues.
  • Badminton season will restart the first week in September.
